Many, many years ago in a city in Iran called Wirani, there was a king who ruled his territory firmly. He had accumulated so much power that no one dared to question any of his decisions: if he ordered something, everyone obeyed without questioning. Conversely, it could have very unpleasant consequences!
It could be said that everyone feared him, but since he was also a wise man, in the end they respected him and valued his way of doing things.
In Wirani there was only one well but it was very large and served to supply all the inhabitants of the city. Every day hundreds of people came to him and filled their jars to drink and wash. In the same way, the servants of the king collected there the precious liquid to take to the palace. Thus, the poor and the rich, the king and the villager, enjoyed the same water.
It happened that one summer night, while everyone was sleeping, a horrifying witch went stealthily to the well. He touched it and began to laugh showing his few black teeth and impregnating the air with a breath that smelled like skunk fart. He was about to carry out one of his Machiavellian tricks and that amused him a lot!
- Hahaha! These villagers will find out who I am!
Under the skirt was a small bag, and inside it was a small bottle containing a yellowish and sticky liquid. He picked it up, unscrewed the small plug, and dropped a few drops into the well while whispering:
- I am a witch and as a witch I behave Whoever drinks from this water will become completely crazy!
That said, it disappeared in the darkness of the night leaving a small cloud of smoke as the only trace.
A few hours later the first rays of the sun announced the arrival of the new day. As always, the songs of the rooster were heard and the city was filled with the daily hustle and bustle.
That morning the heat was suffocating! All the inhabitants of Wirani, sweating like chickens, ran to fetch water from the well to quench their thirst and take a bath of cold water. Curiously, nobody realized that the water was not exactly the same and some even exclaimed:
- What a delight! ... The well water is today richer than ever!
Everyone tasted it except the king, who happened to be on a trip out of town. The hot day passed, the night passed, and the new dawn arrived as always, but the truth is that nothing was the same in the city. Everyone had changed! Because of the spell of the witch, men, women, children and the elderly, got up nervous and doing crazy things. Some were delirious and said nonsense; others began to hallucinate and see strange things everywhere.
There was no doubt ... Everyone without exception had lost their minds!
The king, already back, was properly informed of what was happening and went out for a walk to check it with his own eyes. The citizens swarmed around him, and when he saw that he was not behaving like them, they began to think that he had gone mad at the top.
Completely upset they rushed out to the main square to tell each other:
- Have you noticed that our king is very strange? I believe that it has become majareta!
- Yes, yes, it's like a goat!
- We have to expel him and rule another!
Imagine a lot of people out of control, totally mad, who suddenly become convinced that the nuts are not them, but their king. So much commotion was formed that the monarch put the cry in the sky.
- But what the hell is going on ?! All my subjects have lost their minds and think that the one who is crazy is me! Dammit!
Despite the difficult ballot he had to face, he decided to remain calm and reflect. Quickly, he tied ropes and drew a conclusion that hit the nail on the head:
- It had to be because of the well water ... It's the only possible explanation! Yes, it is clear that everyone has drunk less than me and that's why I have been saved ... I bet the neck that this is a thing of the evil witch!
While he was brooding, he caught sight of a potter who was carrying a clay jug in his hand.
- Gentleman, lend me the jar!
- Here you are, majesty, all yours!
The monarch grabbed her by the handle, pushed people aside with elbows and strode to the water well without any fear. The inhabitants of Wirani huddled behind him, holding their breath.
- So you think I'm crazy, right? Well, very well, right now I'm going to put a solution to this unsettling situation!
