(We are in the city of Hamelin. We see their houses. A Man enters chased by a group of mice. They cross the scene and leave. A Woman enters chased by mice and as before, they cross the scene and leave).
(The Mayor enters. He is a fat man, elegantly dressed and crowned by a large hat. He walks around.) (Enter the Man and the Woman.)
MAN.
Mayor, you must do something. The city is full of mice.
MAYOR.
Mice?
(Look around).
I don't see mice.
(A mouse enters, then two more, three at a time, and four a little
