The author is widely read and discussed in El Salvador, but is not usually studied or analyzed in his poetic expression. Espino assumes the national historical problem of social strata through the colors, flavors and perfumes of the land and the culture of the country at the time he wrote his poems. His book of poems has a poetic and delicate tone, with a lyrical vision; it shows with a simple style that is easy to understand and feel, therefore, without formal complications. He wrote sonnets, romance and free verse. Their work is too young and because of that they may seem to lack creative vision according to some critics. The critics are wrong in that opinion, of course, at least from El Salvador's point of view. Espino's poetry is more descriptive and visual in content than any other poetry by Salvadoran poets, with perhaps the sole exception of Salarrué. An interesting note about poetry.
