“My Grandma’s Home Remedies”

Some grandparents like to share their home remedies for when you are sick or when you hurt yourself. My grandmother loves sharing her advice. That is why I decided to write this essay where I include what happened, and the advice she gave me so I can always remember her home remedies. I still think that it is best to go to a doctor, and I always go to one when I get sick.

For a long time, I was feeling faint and weak. My blood pressure was low. My grandmother told me: You should drink pomegranate juice every day. I was doubtful, but I did, and my low blood pressure problems went away.

We live in a very hot place. One summer, I was complaining about a headache I had because of the sun. She prepared watermelon juice and I drank it. It was a wonderful thing! I felt much better. Headaches caused by hot weather can be cured by drinking one lass of watermelon juice.

One day I was complaining about pain inside my ear. She said, “You should let me put a drop of garlic juice into your ear.” It really freaked me out, but since it was late, and we were far from the hospital I agreed. It helped me with the pain, and I was able to sleep better. I went to the doctor the next day to get treatment for an ear infection.

And last, but not least, the most embarrassing one. I was spending a week with my grandmother. It was the first time my mother let me pack my own suitcase, and I forgot a bunch of stuff. One of the things I forgot was deodorant. My grandma lives very far from towns and cities, so it is not something that you can just go buy at the convenience store. I thought I could just wash my armpits and not use deodorant, but I was wrong. I smelled terrible. I asked my grandma for help. First, she told me I shouldn’t wear any deodorant (those are her beliefs), and then she told me that I should use something more natural. She mixed baking soda and lemon juice and told me to put it on my armpits. It wasn’t as good as deodorant in my opinion, but it worked.

I am sure there are many other home remedies she uses, but she hasn’t shared those with me. I hope she does share them in the future.
