The manifestations of violence that have their origin or justification in disruptive intra-family processes are increasingly detected by professionals, while the acceptance of these situations by victims in a society that tends to assume as one of their Zero tolerance fundamental values against this type of behavior. Traditional approaches based on victim and offender care, as well as partial and a posteriori, forget the many points in common that these phenomena have. A comprehensive approach to family violence should, first of all, be oriented towards violence prevention in this area, creating communication, affective relationship and discipline competencies that go beyond the usual associations between violence-machismo-authority. In this article, the authors expose the common points and the most significant differences between the different manifestations of family violence (against children, against the couple and against the elderly), concluding with the advantages, especially at the preventive level, of a comprehensive approach.
