Respuesta:“Regeneración o catástrofe” fue la frase pronunciada por el senador cartagenero Rafael Núñez en el Congreso en Bogotá, la misma que difundieron todos los periódicos del país. Con esas palabras el curtido político liberal pretendía que el presidente Julián Trujillo pusiera fin al Olimpo Radical. Culpaba a este grupo de llevar a la Nación al borde de la catástrofe con la defensa sin sentido del federalismo, el cual, según Núñez, no era el sistema más apropiado para la unidad y la paz de los colombianos. Sus críticas al liberalismo radical estaban dirigidas también contra el Estado laico, pues consideraba que discutir con la Iglesia era ir contra de la corriente en un país esencialmente católico. Por eso, acusaba al liberalismo radical de ser el responsable de todas las guerras por su matiz religioso.
