The story of the genesis of The Little Prince is perhaps one of my favorites of all time, on a par with the work itself, if I may. After being called up in 1939 and participating in several risky aerial missions, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry leaves France once the German occupation takes place, settling in the United States with the firm objective of convincing the Americans to enter the world conflict. The French author will be required by the army four years later, but in that period, apart from incessant attempts to return to the front, Antoine wrote The Little Prince.
I can't think of a better time (or perhaps it's more accurate to say ideal) to write a work with the sensitivity and philosophical depth of The Little Prince than during a war. I imagine that few contexts should upset us as much inside as a conflict of the magnitude of World War II. The emotional state of those who experienced it from within seems inaccessible to me, and perhaps for this reason it never ceases to fascinate me that stories as beautiful as the one Saint-Exupéry tells in The Little Prince can be born from such a horrifying situation.
This is the story of children and grown-ups, of the vast world that surrounds us, of the small worlds in which we sometimes land. An ode to life, a critique of those things that concern us so much and that limit us so much when we reach adulthood. It is the world seen from the eyes of a child, the one we are or the one we were, also the one we will always be inside.
A catalog of inspiring phrases, beautiful metaphors and surreal scenes in which varied and capital universal themes such as friendship, love, innocence, responsibility or the relationship between human beings and nature take place. A story as endearing as it is rich in wisdom, suitable for all ages and that never expires or goes out of style. A classic with all the letters that is capable of caressing our soul.
