I think it might be worth a try eventually, but as of now it isn't necessary and we first need to clear things up here on earth. While it might give us a bigger insight into the universe and what's out there, it would require large sums of money and funding, which we do not have and would be difficult to acquire. If eventually, we did have funding, materials and everything necessary for a successful mission it would be a grand opportunity for research and deeper understanding of the universe, but even then, the chances of finding life are slim and in one mission it won't happen. Another problem that is holding us back would be the damage and residue trying to make this happen would leave on earth, and how it would affect the current problem we have of global warming. Theoretically, if we did find life in space, there is no telling what it could be. It could be a microorganism and not the green aliens we expect. I personally think there could be life in space, just not on the solar system or anywhere near our reach.
