Brief description of its traits or characteristics
Delia Nicolasa Zapata Olivella or "mama Yeya" was born on April 1, 1926 in Lorica, department of Córdoba.
She is recognized for being an authority on the music and dance of the Caribbean and Pacific coasts of Colombia.
She was a folklorist, dancer and teacher. She stood out as director of the dance company Ballet Folklorico Delia Zapata Olivella.
Her excellent work in favor of Colombian folklore transcended borders.
When she finished high school, she decided to study medicine, but her brother Manuel, observing her artistic inclinations, suggested that she study Fine Arts in Bogotá, at the National University of Colombia; there she finished her career.
