Ocurre cuando un pequeño tornado «aspira» los peces bien sea de un río o del mar y, los transporta hasta una nube tormentosa desde donde finalmente, caen junto a abundantes precipitaciones. Las tormentas generan grandes remolinos y arrasan con todo lo que ven a su paso, por ello es posible que la lluvia no sea sólo de peces como veremos más adelante. De hecho, si han atravesado una fase de bajas temperaturas, es posible que caigan congelados pero por lo general, suelen caer vivos.
