- They are not plants or animals, although they resemble each other in some of their characteristics. They resemble plants, being sedentary organisms that are fixed to a substrate and, while they are alive, they do not stop growing. They resemble animals, because, although the cells of fungi have walls like those of plants, fungal cell walls are rich in Chitin, the same substance that makes the external skeleton of insects hard and they also have Heterotrophic nutrition.
- They do not have CHLOROPHYLLL, therefore they cannot make their own food by the process of Photosynthesis.
- Some are Saprophytes and others Parasites.
- They are Decomposers because they transform dead organic matter from remains of plants, animals, etc. in inorganic matter, very rich for the soil, transforming it into compost or black earth, being useful for vegetables.
- No son plantas ni animales, aunque se parezcan en algunas de sus características tanto a las unas como a los otros. Se parecen a las plantas, por ser organismos sedentarios que se encuentran fijos a un sustrato y, mientras están vivos, no cesan de crecer. Se parecen a los animales, pues, aunque las células de los hongos tienen pared como las de las plantas, las paredes celulares fúngicas son ricas en Quitina, la misma sustancia que hace duro el esqueleto externo de los insectos y además tienen nutrición Heterótrofa.
- No poseen CLOROFILA, por lo tanto no pueden fabricar su propio alimento por proceso de la Fotosíntesis.
- Algunos son Saprófitos y otros Parásitos.
- Son Des componedores porque transforman la materia orgánica muerta de restos de vegetales, animales, etc. en materia inorgánica, muy rica para el suelo, transformándolo en abono o tierra negra, being útil para los vegetales.
