why are divergent lens called like that?

The converging lenses are thicker in the middle than at the edge, and concentrate ( they converge ) at a point of light rays through them. This point is called focus (F ) and the separation between it and the lens focal length is known as ( f ) . Note that the lens 2 is less than one focal length
