  1. A occurs when the moon gets in the way of sunlight and casts its shadow on Earth. That means that during the day, the moon moves ahead of the sun and it gets dark.
  2. In the A occurs when the moon gets in the way of sunlight and casts its shadow on Earth. That means that during the day, the moon moves ahead of the sun and it gets dark. Isn't it strange that everything goes dark in broad daylight?  This total eclipse occurs approximately every year and a half somewhere on Earth. A partial eclipse, when the moon does not completely cover the sun, occurs at least twice a year, somewhere on Earth.
  • During a lunar eclipse, the Earth blocks sunlight from reaching the moon. That means that at night, the full moon disappears completely, as the shadow of the Earth covers it.  The moon can also appear reddish in color, because the Earth's atmosphere absorbs the other colors while bending some sunlight toward the moon. Sunsets get their red and orange color because of the way the sunlight bends as it passes through the atmosphere and absorbs other colors.
