Once when a Lion was asleep a little Mouse began running up and down upon him; this soon wakened the Lion, who placed his huge paw upon him, and opened his big jaws to swallow him.

-Pardon, O King -cried the little Mouse-. Forgive me this time, I shall never forget it: who knows but what I may be able to do you a turn some of these days? The Lion was so tickled at the idea of the Mouse being able to help him, that he lifted up his paw and let him go. Some time after the Lion was caught in a trap, and the hunters who desired to carry him alive to the King, tied him to a tree while they went in search of a wagon to carry him on.

Just then the little Mouse happened to pass by, and seeing the sad plight in which the Lion was, went up to him and soon gnawed away the ropes that bound the King of the Beasts.

-Was I not right? -said the little Mouse.

The hare and the Tortoise ( La liebre y la tortuga)

In the field lived a hare and a tortoise. The hare was very fast and spent the day scampering from here to there, while the tortoise always walked looking tired, not for nothing had to bear the weight of its large shell.

The hare was very amused to see the tortoise dragging her fat legs, while she just needed a little impulse to jump with agility. When they crossed paths, the hare laughed at her and used to make mocking comments that of course, the tortoise did not like them at all.

- I hope you're not in a hurry, turtle friend! LOL! At that rate you will not get anywhere in time. What will you do the day you have an emergency? Speed up, speed up!

One day the tortoise was so fed up that she faced the hare.

- You will be fast as the wind, but I assure you that I am capable of winning a race.

- LOL! Oh, I'm laughing! But even a slug is faster than you! - The hare answered, mocking and laughing loudly.

- If you are so sure - the turtle insisted - Why don't we try?

- Whenever you want! - The hare replied with arrogance.

- Very well! We will see each other tomorrow at this time next to the field of sunflowers, do you think?

- Perfect! - The hare agreed, winking at him with an insolent face.

The hopping hare and the turtle, with the same calm as always, each went to her side.

The next day they both met in the place they had agreed. Many animals attended as a public, because the news of such a curious athletic event had reached the confines of the forest. A family of worms, during the night, had been in charge of making furrows in the earth to mark the competition track. The fox was chosen to mark the start and finish lines with sticks, while a nervous raven prepared himself thoroughly to be the referee. When everything was ready and shouting "Ready, set, go", the hare and the tortoise began the race. The tortoise came out at a slow pace, as was usual for her. The hare, on the other hand, fled, but seeing that he had a lot of advantage, he stopped to wait for her and, incidentally, made fun of her a little.

- Come on, turtle, faster, I'm bored! - She shouted pretending a yawn - As you don't run anymore this has no emotion for me!

The tortoise caught up with the hare, and the hare took a few jumps again to get a few meters ahead. He waited for her again and the turtle took several minutes to get to where he was, because he was walking very slowly.

- I told you, turtle! It is impossible that a being as calm as you can compete with an animal as agile and sporty as me.

Along the way, the hare stopped several times to wait for the tortoise, convinced that it would be enough to run a little bit at the last moment to arrive first. But something happened ... A few meters from the finish line, the hare fell asleep from sheer boredom so the tortoise overtook him and taking short but safe steps, he placed first. When the tortoise was about to cross the finish line, the hare woke up and ran as fast as it could, but there was nothing to do anymore. She watched with amazement and helplessness as the turtle rose with victory and was cheered by all the animals in the forest.

The hare, for the first time in her life, felt ashamed and she never laughed at the tortoise again.

Moral: in life you have to be humble and bear in mind that goals are achieved with patience, dedication, perseverance and a job well done. It is always better to go slowly but at a firm and safe pace. And of course, never belittle someone for being weaker, because maybe one day they will make you see your own weaknesses.
