did you know me have more than 600 muscles in our body? and more than 200 bones? bones shape our body and help us to stand up straight, hithout our bones, we would be like any other invertebrate. another function of bones is to protect our body's most important organs. our bones make sure that organs like our heart, lungs and brain are safe. finally, the bone morrow, which is inside of our bones, produces red blood cells and platelets. muscles are really important without them we wouldn't be able to breathe, walk our run, even smile. muscles help us pump blood throughout our body too. there are three different types of muscles: smooth, cardiac and skeletal. smooth muscles are know as involuntary muscles because you can't control them. these muscles help with digestion among other vital functions. cardiac, muscle, know as the myocardium, makes up our heart. it pumps out blood to the rest of the body. it's an involuntary muscle too. skeletal muscles, or striated muscles, are attached to bones with tendons; they keep up standing straight and make us move. these are muscles that we can control.
