Tanni Grey-Thompson is one of the fastest wheelchair racers in the world. She can't use her legs, but she is the most famous woman on wheels. She has often been on television. She is lively, friendly and intelligent and she enjoys a good laugh. So she is popular as well as famous. Her best year was 2000 when she won four gold medals in the International Paralympic Games, coming first in the 100 metre, 200 metre, 400 metre and 800 metre races. In that year, she was the holder of six world records. In the UK, the BBC named her as one of three Sports People the Year and The Times newspaper named her as Sports Woman of the Year. She is very serious about her sport, and so she trains hard. She does 150 kilometres every week and uses weights to strengthen her arms.
