The United States is one of the most diverse countries in the world, from its geography to demographic composition; It is impossible to speak of a unique characteristic in this scenario of geographic, racial, ethnic and cultural wealth.
The flow of immigrants, who come from the most remote regions of the planet or neighboring nations, has been continuous and constant for 150 years. For example, in 2013, about 41.3 million immigrants lived in the United States, representing 13% of the total population. Taking into account the children of immigrants born in the United States - the so-called second generation immigrants - the figure reaches 80 million, or what is the same, a quarter of the 316 million people living in the country.
Diversity is also reflected in geography and climate. There are landscapes as diverse as Alaska, the Arizona desert, Niagara Falls on the Canadian border, California beaches, Midwest cornfields, or the most cosmopolitan cities on the planet.
Every corner of the United States is unique, and this is reflected in the customs of its inhabitants. It is one of the countries with more local festivals and traditions that we can find around the world. At the state level the most important is Thanksgiving, which is celebrated on the last Thursday of November and has its origins in aboriginal and European traditions that celebrated the end of the harvests and appreciated the good results. Currently, it is usually commemorated with a banquet with family and friends.
At the gastronomic level, Americans stand out for their lack of dedication to cooking. Generally your diet is based on cramming of fast food or precooked dishes that are prepared at home in a matter of minutes. Breakfast is your most important meal of the day, followed by a strong lunch at noon and a light dinner based on soups or sandwiches at night.
However, when it comes to restaurants, they have a very wide variety. The diversity of its society makes it possible to find multitude of ethnic restaurants and eat almost any dish in every city.
