Stonehenge Stonehenge is a famous English tourist attraction in the South of England. It is close to the town of Salisbury. Stonehenge is an ancient circle of stones and historians believe it was constructed between 3000 and 2000 B.C. (Before Christ). Even today, no one really knows who was responsible for constructing it or why. Some argue it was used to worship the moon and the sun. You can find several burial mounds around the stone circles of Stonehenge. The stones are incredibly heavy and some weigh up to 5 tons. They are known as bluestones, and it is said that they originally came from Wales, more than 300 km away. Historians have reason to believe the stones were put on rafts and somehow sailed along the coast to reach Salisbury.
