SAY GOODBYE TO SHY
Are you shy and quiet around other people? (1)____Well, this is quite common! But the ability to talk with others is an important social and professional skill. Don’t worry, here are four simple steps to help you start a conversation:
Make eye contact with the other person and smile. (2)____Also, be sure to introduce yourself. You could say ‘Hello, my name is…’, or even something more informal such as ‘Hi, I’m…’.
Next, ask a question. The first thing many people like to talk about is their job or their studies.(3)____Some other important questions are ‘Where do you work?’, ‘What do you study?’ or ‘Do you like your job?’
People also enjoy talking about their hobbies or what they do in their free time. (4)____To keep the conversation going, ask more specific questions about their preferred free-time activities. For example, ask about music, TV, sports or books. What are their favourites and why?
Now you can start to ask about the other person’s family – but be careful! (5)____
Try leading with some general questions. Ask where the other person is from, or ask about brothers and sisters. If the other person does have any siblings, you can ask about them! For example, ‘What does your brother (or sister) do?’

C. Do you find it hard to start up a conversation with someone you don’t know?
