The story begins with this character sitting in his cold room on Christmas Eve. His butler, Bob Cratchit. He appears in a scene flirting with cold as his boss, Mr. Scrooge, refused to spend his carbon money for heating, and Scrooge's nephew invites his uncle to the annual Christmas party. Two burly gentlemen also pass by and ask Scrooge for a handout, however, Scrooge reacts unpleasantly to these two men. This fact contrasts with the kindness of his nephew who replies with a cheerful "Merry Christmas!" Later that night, when Mr. Scrooge returns to his cold and dark house, he receives a chilling visit from the ghost of his late colleague Jacob Marley years ago.
