Teacher: Greetings, class ! Today we'll learn about Cognates !
Student 1: Oh my! I hope it's something fun. I'm kinda interested in learning that.
Student 2: Learning about Cognates? Not cool.
Teacher: Hold on there! Cognates are very important in our daily life, might as well give you guys a brief explanation.
Student 1: Yea! Imagine.
Student 2: That is true, I guess it could be fun.
Teacher: Let's start!
Teacher: Cognates are very useful in our daily life (mostly) due to it's a connection between spanish & english words! Sometimes we all confuse spanish words with english words!
Student 2: I must agree!
Student 1: Oh! I know an example.
Teacher: Hop on! Please tell us. . .
Student 1: Yesterday, I was on my room and my mom called me for dinner but she told me after i went to her;
" We are eating SOAP "
Student 1: I was very confused and asked her what were we eating again, she later told me SOUP. Her accent made me think she said SOAP.
Teacher: Oh my! That's pretty hilarious. It's pretty similiar to what we'll see.
Student 2: Oh gosh! That's scary, imagine eating SOAP for dinner.
Teacher: In terms, Cognates are spanish words similiar to english words. We can get easily confused if the person doesn't spell it right.
Student 2: Very accurate! I have a friend hispanic who sometimes speak like that, for example.
Student 2: She once told me that her dad was going to fabric, I was very confused and I asked her if she meant factory. She just laughed!
Student 1: Wow!
Teacher: That's also a very accurate example! Sometimes we also confuse words, one time.
Teacher: I went to a local shop and the owner spoke to me in spanish and told me " efectivo? " I was very confused and just agreed with her.
Teacher: Later, she made a face of disgust. She later told me on english "cash? " I just laughed and she also laughed too! I thought she said effective. Can you believe that?!
