Have you ever dreamed about living on the ocean? Perhaps this dream will become a reality in the future. Many cities are very crowded and haven't got enough green areas. In addition, factories and cars pollute the air. Japanese architects and engineers are creating a model of a new type of city - an envirommental city on the equatorial Pacific Ocean.

The engineers have got many problems to solve. They must design huge artificial islands to hold the buildings and they must be strong enough to survive storms. Architects have already made sketches of the islands with buildings, fields, forests and beaches. The weather on the islands will be very pleasant, with no strong winds and a temperature of 26°-28° all year. If the project is successful, the buildings will be home to thousands of people and they will have gardens to grow food. It will be easy to walk everywhere on the island, so there won't be any train stations or cars to pollute the air. In addition, factories will recycle all the rubbish.

Has this idea ever worked before? In the Fujian province of China, people have lived in homes on the sea since 700 AD. They have survived well in these floating villages, but their homes are very small and they haven't got modern technology. People haven't built tall modern buildings on water yet. So this will be the first project of its kind in the world.
