The Blind Man and the Hunter
A Tale from West Africa
The hunter decided to exchange the birds because he thought, “A man with no eyes will never see the difference.” So, he kept the colorful bird and gave the ugly, gray bird to the blind man. Then, they decided to return home. During their long walk the hunter asked: “If you are intelligent and you can see with your ears, tell me, why is the world so bad?” “Because in the world there are many dishonest people. They take things that are not theirs.” The hunter was very ashamed, so he decided to return the colorful bird to the blind man. “I'm sorry,” he said They continued walking and walking. The hunter again asked, “If you are intelligent and you can see with your ears, tell me, why is there so much love and kindness in the world?” “Because in the world there are many good people, too. You are a good person, too.” The hunter finally understood that the blind man was intelligent and could really see with his ears… and hear with his heart.
El ciego y el cazador
Un cuento de África occidental
El cazador decidió intercambiar las aves porque pensó: “Un hombre sin ojos nunca verá la diferencia”. Entonces, se quedó con el pájaro colorido y le dio el pájaro feo y gris al ciego. Entonces, decidieron regresar a casa. Durante su larga caminata el cazador preguntó: “Si eres inteligente y puedes ver con tus oídos, dime, ¿por qué el mundo es tan malo?”. “Porque en el mundo hay mucha gente deshonesta. Se llevan cosas que no son suyas”. El cazador estaba muy avergonzado, por lo que decidió devolverle el pájaro de colores al ciego. “Lo siento”, dijo. Siguieron caminando y caminando. El cazador volvió a preguntar: “Si eres inteligente y puedes ver con tus oídos, dime, ¿por qué hay tanto amor y bondad en el mundo?”. “Porque en el mundo también hay mucha gente buena. a)The story doesn´t tell us he knew about the bird, but maybe he felt the bird and discovered it wasn´t his .
b) A blind person can "see " with his/her ears .
c) The blinde person was intelligent because he knew why the world is bad and good at the same time, explaining the hunter how it worked.
d)At first the hunter is presented as a bad person,but at the end we can see that he is a good person.
e)We shouldn´t take adventage of others.
