Both partners are able to communicate effectively their needs and listen to their partner, and work to resolve conflict in a rational and non-violent way. But maintaining a healthy relationship looks for skills many young people are never taught A lack of these skills, and growing up in a society that sometimes celebrates violence or in a community that experiences a high rate of violence, can lead to unhealthy and even violent relationships among youth.

The passage says that in order to maintain a healthy relationship it's necessary that both partners communicate their needs, listen to them and  respect them, conflicts must be resolved in a non-violent way, even thought most time societies are prone to violence, couples need to learn that the best way to resolve problems and conflicts is by talking and understanding each others point of view.
