Monte Simelí
Once there were two brothers, one rich and one poor. The rich man, however, never helped the poor, who barely made a living by trading corn, and sometimes he was so poor that he had no bread for his wife and children. Once, when the poor man was carrying his wagon through the forest, he looked to the side, and he saw a large, bare mountain, which he had never seen before. He stopped and looked at her in astonishment. While he was analyzing this, he suddenly saw that twelve great men were coming toward him, and thinking that they might be assailants, he hid the wagon in the thicket, climbed a tree and waited to see what was happening. Nevertheless, the twelve men went to the mountain and shouted:- "Mountain Semsi, mountain Semsi, open!" -"And immediately the mountain opened to the center, and the twelve entered it, and once inside, the mountain closed. After a while, it opened again, and the men came out carrying heavy sacks on their shoulders. And when they were all in the daylight, they said,- "Mountain Semsi, mountain Semsi, shut up!" -And the mountain closed completely, with no sign of any entrance to it, and the twelve departed from there. When they were no longer in sight, the poor man came down from the tree and went to wonder what secret had really hidden in the mountain. So he came up and shouted,- "Mountain Semsi, mountain Semsi, open!" -And the mountain opened to him too. He entered it, and the whole mountain was a cave full of gold and silver, with large quantities of pearls and brilliant jewels, as if they were grains of corn during the harvest. The poor man did not know what to do, whether to take part of that treasure for himself or not, but at last he filled his pockets with gold, leaving the pearls and precious stones where they were. When he came out he shouted:- "Mountain Semsi, mountain Semsi, shut up!" -And the mountain closed, and he returned home with his cart and his cargo. And since then he had no more anxiety, and he could buy food for his wife and children with gold, and good wine in the store. He lived happily and in development, gave aid to the poor, and did good to anyone who needed it. However, when the gold obtained was finished, he went to his brother and borrowed a barrel to measure wheat, went to the mountain and brought another bit more gold for him, but he never touched any of the most valuable things .The wealthy brother, however, was increasingly envious of his brother's possessions, and of the good life he had, and he could not understand where his wealth came from, or what his brother did with the barrel of measure . Then he came up with a little trick, and covered the whole bottom of the barrel with rubber, and the next time, when the brother returned the barrel, he found a piece of gold stuck in it. Immediately he went to his brother and asked:"What do you measure with my barrel?"- "Maize and barley" - repliedThen he showed him the piece of gold, and threatened that if he did not tell her the truth, he would accuse the authorities. The brother then told the whole story, as it happened. The rich man ordered them to enlist their largest wagon, and headed for the mountain, determined to take advantage of the opportunity better than his brother did, and bring back a good amount of various treasures. When he reached the mountain he cried:- "Mountain Semsi, mountain Semsi, open!" -The mountain opened and he entered. There were all the treasures lying in his sight, and for a while he could not decide which would begin. At last he was filled with every precious stone he could carry. He wanted to carry his burden outside, but his heart and spirit were also so full of treasure that he had even forgotten the name of the mountain, and shouted,- "Mountain Simelí, mountain Simelí, abrir." -But since that was not the correct name for the mountain, it never opened and remained closed. Then he was alarmed, and the more he tried to remember it, the more his thoughts were confused, and his treasures were of no use to him.At dusk, the mountain opened, and it was the twelve thieves who came and went, and when they saw him they burst into laughter and said,- "Little bird, we find you at last! Did you think we'd never notice that you've come twice before? We could not capture you then, but this third time you will not be able to leave again. "-Then the rich man said:- "But it was not me, it was my brother." -And they let him beg for his life and say what he wanted, but in the end they left him locked up in the cave until his last days.
