Italian Snake Festival

When & Where The Italian Snake Festival usually takes place on the first Thursday in May in the town of Cocullo in Italy.

What to Expect This is the feast of St Domenic and a statue of himself is carried the streets adorned with jewelry, money and of course live snakes.
He is then brought to the church where the church bell is rung by locals with their teeth.  St Domenic is the patron saint that protects against snake-bites and toothaches hence the strange rituals of this Italian festival.
