In 1997 Shakira created the Pies Descalzos Foundation with heart set on finding opportunities for unprotected children of Colombia and third world countries. As Global Goodwill Ambassador of UNICEF, has raised his voice for them.
With the support of the Ministry of Education and the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare Foundation consistently develops in the Atlantic, Pacific Coast and the Midwest a program of educational and food scholarships for children who are outside the educational system or in risk of dropping out and for the children of families displaced by violence.
The Barefoot Foundation is a Colombian non-governmental organization, created by the artist Shakira, in order to find opportunities for child victims of violence in Colombia. Born in the Colombian Caribbean coast, in Barranquilla and then spreads to other regions.
Our goal is to change the conditions of education, nutrition and coexistence of the thousands of children displaced by violence, who live in conditions of great vulnerability by internal conflict facing our country.
