Recuerda otra cosa. Cuando esta la palabra "There", debe ser acompañada por "are" o por "is". Esta combinación forman la palabra "Hay" pero hay que tener cuidado al usarla ya que todo depende de como sigue la oración.
El "There are" se usa cuando hay un sustantivo contable. Un ejemplo sería "There are many rooms", cuya traducción es "Hay muchas habitaciones".
En caso contrario, el "There is" se utiliza para una oraciones con sustantivo incontable. Por ejemplo: "There is little sugar", que se traduce como "Hay poca azúcar".

Ya que el There is también puede indicar singularidad en algo. Si quisiéramos decir que hay un perro. Pese a que este es contable, ya que tenemos una cantidad, no podemos decir "There are a dog". Esto es un error. Debemos, sí o sí, decir "There is a dog".
