(*) Hay un error en el verbo de esta oración. En primer lugar, el verbo 'to be' (= ser, estar) no tiene el menor sentido en esta oración. Además, como cualquier verbo de estado (no dinámico) no puede usarse en tiempos progresivos. He reemplazado ese verbo por 'watch' (= observar, mirar), que es la alternativa más lógica en esta oración. No sé si te habrás confundido al copiarlo o si está equivocado en el ejercicio original. Por favor, revisa tu ejercicio y si ves que el verbo es otro, copia la oración en los comentarios, así yo puedo editar mi respuesta e incluirlo.

Para formar el past continuous/progressive se deben usar los auxiliares WAS/WERE y la forma '-ING' del verbo principal.

Hay que elegir el auxiliar según el sujeto de la oración:  

• Sujeto: I, he, she, it ---------------- Auxiliar: WAS  

• Sujeto: we, you, they ------------- Auxiliar: WERE

En las oraciones negativas también se pueden usar las contraciones negativas, que son la fusión del auxiliar WAS/WERE y el adverbio NOT:

• Sujeto: I, he, she, it ---------------- Contracción: WASN'T

• Sujeto: we, you, they ------------- Contracción: WEREN'T

El past progressive o pasado continuo está formado por el tiempo pasado del verbo ser  y la forma –ing de un verbo.

Usamos el pasado continuo para hablar del  pasado:

• para algo que sucedió antes y después de  otra acción.
• para algo que sucedió antes y después  de un tiempo específico.
• para mostrar que algo continuó durante algún tiempo.
• por algo que sucedió una y otra vez.
