Se usa cuando se hace referencia a las acciones que comenzaron en el pasado y continuaron hasta otro punto en el pasado. Las oraciones se escriben con las siguientes estructuras:
- Afirmativa:
Sujeto + had been + verbo –ing + complemento.
- Negativa:
Sujeto + had not been + verbo –ing + complemento.
- Interrogativa:
Had + sujeto + been + verbo –ing + complemento + ?
