Para que sirve el wasn't y weren't

el WASN'T Y WEREN'T se utilizan para negar en pasado continuo , es decir que 
se utiliza de esta manera 
I ------------
SHE-------  
HE  -------   WAS  (hegacion = wasn't /was not)
IT ---------

mientras que para 
YOU-------
THEY------    WERE(negacion = weren't /were not )
WE----------

unos ejemplos serian 
AFIMATIVA                                           NEGATIVA

I was playing in the park /  I wasn't(was not)playing in the park 
they were painting a big picture / they weren't(were not) painting a big picture
 
PREGUNTA 
were you running in the cinema ?
was she waiting a taxi ?

Was/wasn't es para: I, he, she, it

Were/weren't es para: you, we, they
