The simple past is used when speaking of the following actions:

A completed action that has no connection to the present.

The perfect past ln general, i't i's used in actions that ocurred before another action in the past.

Repeated actions in the past.

ln stories, stories or when talking about historical events.

let's say it's something that you say now and in happens at that moment, Example:

listen to something that is continuous, let's say it's something that takes a long Example: l walk . The perfect present is formed using "has' or "have' and  the past participle of the verb.for Example: "l have watched the movie" or "She has watched the movies"

The past perfect is very similar to the present perfect because the event also started in the past. However, the difference bethween the events is that the past perfect event also ended  in the past. This can be used with a specified time. For example, " l had studied in China last year". This also implies that the event happened a long time ago.

at least for me they become especially confusing when you have to identify what time to use and what is being used. So it's just a matter of practice and exercise.
