The Mayan indians lived in Mexico for thousands of years before the spanish arrived in 1500s. The Maya were intelligent and culturally rich people. They had farms beautiful palaces and cities with many buildings. The Mayan people knew a lot about nature and the world around them. This knowledge helped them to live a better life. Measuring the time was important, so they developed a sytem to measure it accurately. The Mayan priests studied the sun, moon, stars and planets. They made a calendar from what they learned. The year was divided in 18 months of 20 days each with 5 days left over.

Aztecs

Aztecs lived in the valley which is now Mexico city, and built themselves a powerful city called Tecnochtitlan. Family was very important to the Aztecs. The husband generally worked as a farmer, warrior or craftman. The wife worked in the home, cooking food and weaving cloth to make clothes for the family. Children went to school or helped their mother around the house.

Incas



The Incas lived a long time ago in the mountains of South America. They were warriors and had a lot of slaves. The Incas had a Emperor. He lived in the capital Cuzco. The Incas built houses and roads of stones. They built bridges of sugar-cane. They made clothes of llama wool and sandals of llama skin. The Incas made jewelrery of gold, iron, silver and tin.
