Galapagos Islands
The Galapagos Islands (also known as the Galapagos Islands and officially the Colon or Galapagos Islands) are an archipelago in the Pacific Ocean, 1,000 kilometers off the coast of Ecuador.
Although most visitors to the Galapagos Islands are easily accessible, the National Park Service has always restricted access to these islands and is used primarily for scientific research. Biologists Peter and Rosemary Grant conducted an in-depth study of Darwin's finch for 20 years. They studied the behavior and life cycle of finches and received strong support from the results. Their efforts are recorded in the Pulitzer Prize winning work "Finch's Beak".
