He was born in Caracas on November 29, 1781, he was the son of Bartolomé Bello and Ana Antonia. From a very young age, he learned Latin from Father Cristóbal de Quesada, at whose death in 1796 Bello translated Book V of the Aeneid. In 1797 he began his studies at the Pontifical University of Caracas, where he graduated with a bachelor of arts degree on June 14, 1800. Before graduating, he received the German naturalist Alexander von Humboldt in Caracas and accompanied him to climb and explore Cerro Ávila.
