Martha is buying hot dogs and buns for the class barbecue. the hot dogs come in packages of 10. the buns come in packages of 12. what is the least number she can buy of each so that sha has exactly the same number of hot dogs and buns? how many packages os each should she buy?

To solve the problem we must calculate the Multiple Common Minimum, which represents the lowest value that results from multiplying factors of the terms.

 

To calculate the MCM we have to decompose each term into its prime factors and then multiply common and non-common factor with the greatest exponent

 

12 = 2 x 2 x 3

12 = 2^2 x 3

 

10 = 2 x 5

 

MCM = 2^2 x 3 x 5

MCM = 60

 

It means that the least number to buy of hot dogs and buns is 60. She needs to buy 6 packages of hot dogs and 5 packages of buns
