Las oraciones en pasado simple en inglés se usan para hablar de acciones pasadas. Las oraciones en pasado continuo hablan de acciones que  fueron interrumpidas.

Pasado Simple.

Las oraciones en pasado simple se usan para hablar de acciones terminadas en el pasado y se pueden formar con verbos regulares e irregulares.

Pasado Progresivo.

Las oraciones en pasado progresivo hablan de acciones que estaban sucediendo en el pasado pero que fueron interrumpidas por otra acción.

Su estructura es la siguiente:

  • Sujeto + verbo to be + verbo (ing) + complemento.

Kim and I were outside a store while we were walking along the sidewalk downtown. While we were looking in the store window, I saw a motorcycle with two men on it. While Kim was looking in her bag, the motorcycle was coming towards her. When it stopped next to her, one of the men took her bag and she fell down. A woman called the police to report the crime.

Last Saturday we had a cookout in our yard. Dad cooked a chicken while mom and I were setting the table. The neighbor's dog Speedo was watching us. While dad was getting something from the kitchen, Speedo ran into our yard and stole the chicken!

Past Simple.

  • We saw a suspicious man.
  • The thieves broke into the store.
  • The criminal stole my bag.

Past Progressive.

  • We were walking home.
  • Josie was reading her book.
  • The police were investigating a crime.
