In Spain is not weird to find children smoking. You could see them clearly on the streets with a cigarette in their mouth, just minding their own business.
When my best friend from Germany came to visit me for the first time in Madrid, he was so surprised at the outcome. His face was covered by shock when he saw a boy, about twelve years old, smoking in front of his school.
When we passed near the boy, my friend couldn't help to cough, trying to get the attention of the infant. It just took one second for my friend to take the cigarette out of the mouth of the kid and step on it.
I was beyond shocked. I froze and couldn't say a word. During a few seconds, the air got cold and I could feel my sweat dripping from my forehead. The kid looked at my friend, with a frown on his face, and spit on him. My friend was red with anger and I couldn't help to try to calm him down, but it didn't matter anymore. He was angry and I knew, that for my safety, I shouldn't say anything more. But then, he acted the opposite of what I thought. He smiled, dust away the rest of the spit, and then gave a couple of pats on the child's face. At that moment, I think my jaws were so wide open, that a fly could fly into my mouth.
The other kid was also shocked about the actions of my friend. His mouth couldn't stop opening and closing all the time.
My friend, ignoring our faces, took my writs and dragged me away from the kid, he was still looking at us, as if he was frozen.
I asked my friend what just happened, but he just gave me a smile and also pated my cheek.
That was one of the weirdest days I ever had.
