First National is a large bank with over a hundred branches in the New York area.
The main office is in Manhattan, on Fifth Avenue. That's where Charles Bennett
works.
Charles has worked for First National for over eight years. He started working
there as soon as he finished school. At first, he was in one of the smaller
branches. He did very well there, and about two years ago they offered him a job
at the main office.
Charles has been in the main office since then. He now manages the Customer
Service Department and there are eight employees who report to him. He
interviewed and hired most of the people who are in his department now. Charles
spends a lot of time on the phone and in meetings. He goes out of town on
business about once a month.
Charles' job is much different now than when he was working in the branch office.
He didn't have to spend as much time at the office then as he does now, but he
got paid a lot less, too. He wasn't able to save nearly as much money as he can
now, either. He never had to travel, and he had fewer meetings to go to then.
Charles works a lot harder now than he did a few years ago, but that's all right
with him he loves his job and he knows that his possibilities for the future are
good. Traducido
