The school uniform, dust guard, mandrels, apron, etc. is a peculiar and distinctive clothing, used by the students of some schools, who consider its mandatory use.

Its origin is in the educational centers governed by Catholic religious orders. Its leaders decided to establish a single clothing for the students, in order to encourage the humility of the students, give identity and not make distinctions between them for the variety and quality of their clothes, distinctive of the economic capacity of families. The idea also sought to make schoolchildren's clothing more affordable, as they were garments that combined the duration with the ease and economy of their maintenance.

This origin marks the general characteristics of school uniforms, based on skirt below or at knee height for girls and long grey trousers for boys, however, both sexes with shirts or polo shirts, in this case of 2 or 3 buttons. For the female sex, a garment called jumper is also used which consists of being a sleeveless dress that is worn above the garment either shirt or polo shirt, depending on the age, plain shirts or polo shirts, knitted garments in the shape of a beak sweater for boys and buttoned jacket for girls. In some cases, already virtually non-existent, a headdress was required for students in the form of a hat or cap. Exceptions of uniformity in many cases were shoes and outer outer coat. For the former only the color and type of last was prescribed, being free for the second.
