Explicación:

Ten en cuenta que:

WAS se usa para los pronombres I, HE, SHE, IT.

WERE se usa para los pronombres YOU, WE THEY.

La negación puede ir WAS NOT o WERE NOT en contextos formales (o de escritura). Por otra parte, puede ir WASN'T o WEREN'T en contextos informales (o de habla).

Explicación:

mira cuando es "was" es porque es solo una persona a la que se refiere la frase

y cuando es "were" es porque es la frase en plural

y recuerda que "was" y "were" es en pasado
