Everyone knows it is easy to use energy. But did you know it is also easy to conserve energy? Here are four easy ways to save energy in your home.

Unplug items that you are not using. Electronic equipment such as televisions, stereos, and DVD players often continue to use electricity even after you turn them off. Also unplug chargers for cell phones, MP3 players, laptops, and other devices when they are not in use.

Use the “sleep” or “hibernate” setting on your computer. This way the computer uses less energy when you are not using it during the day. At the end of the day turn off the computer.

Be efficient when you do chores around the house. When you do laundry use cold water as often as possible, and use shorter cycles. Try to hang your clothes to dry instead of using a dryer. It’s also important to not waste water when you are washing dishes. If you have a dishwasher be sure it is full before you run it.

Always turn off the lights when you leave a room at home and at school.
