Unfortunately, he was caught and killed because of this. The pregnant woman was so angry that she cursed this tree with a spell that involved turning the tree into a sort of plague. From that moment on, "El árbol de guayaba" can be found all over the Galapagos Islands, and it is considered a problem because it does not let other trees grow properly.​
