La mañana del 21 de abril avistaron las costas veracruzanas, anclando cerca de San Juan de Ulúa y al día siguiente, Viernes Santo 22 de abril de 1519, desembarcaron en las playas contiguas llamadas Chalchihuecan por los indígenas mexicas.
