El pasado perfecto es utilizado para referse a cosas que tuvieron lugar en el pasado antes de que ocurriera otra.

Ejemplos:

Anne:-How long had you been studying for this examination?.
Sarah- A lot! I studied at least for three months.
A-Wow! I suppose you haven't had any vacance.
S-Of course not. And I didn't go outside any day.
A- Had you never had a little space for amusement?
S--Well, only one evening I went out with my boyfriend.
A-- Is that true?
S--I have never told a lie in all my life.
A--Excuse me, please. I hadn't had the purpose of making you angry.

Diálogo en inglés de pasado perfecto:

Jazmin: Hi! Paola, how are you?

Paola: Hi Jazmin, I'm fine and you?

Jazmin: Well I'm a little worried, have you studied for today's test?

Paola: No, I haven't had the time to do that over the weekend. Do you want to study for a while?

Jazmin: Yes, of course, I didn't study either because if I had not helped my mom with the shop she wouldn't have managed it at all by herself.

Paola: Ok, don't worry, let's start with the book, because I had read the book before I saw the movie.

Jazmin: Ok, fine by me.

Paola: So, in the book, Josie had been depressed for a long time before she broke up with Jack.

Jazmin: Yes, but I remember she had been depressed in the first places because of her mother's death.

Paola: Right.
