The Palacio de las Garzas is the official residence of the President of the Republic, and one of the most relevant government offices in the country. This majestic work was built in 1673 in what is now known as Casco Antiguo, becoming one of the most important places in Panama.
Despite having suffered fires, transformations, invasions and restorations, it remains imposing and elegant as a worthy symbol of Panamanian culture, history and identity. Its name is due to the herons that the poet Ricardo Miró decided to give as a gift in 1922 to the then president, Belisario Porras.
