Respuesta:The layers of the earth can be described in terms of their composition—what they’re made of, or they can be described in terms of their mechanical properties—how they respond to tectonic forces.
Crust, mantle, and core describe three layers of earth based on what they’re made of. Continental crust is mostly made of granite, and is different than the mantle, which is mostly olivine, and the core, which is mostly nickel and iron. The boundary between the crust and the mantle occurs where the rock changes compositionally from granite to serpentenite.
Continental plates are part of the lithosphere, the rigid outer layer of the earth. Plates move around on the asthenosphere, which is a ductile, plastic layer beneath the lithosphere. The boundary between these two layers is the Moho, which signifies a change from rock above that is primarily rigid, and brittle, to rock that is ductile, and plastic.
