dame $.30 y tendre tanto como tu tengas, pero si te doy $. 40 , tu tendras el triple de los que yo tengo . ¿cuanto tienes?

                       Primer caso                       Segundo caso
Tu = $ x               x - 30                                      x + 40
Yo = $ y               y + 30                                     y - 40

Conclusión        x - 30 = y + 30                       x + 40 = 3(y - 40)
 
De aqui tenemos 2 ecuaciones:

 x - 30 = y + 30                                y               x + 40 = 3(y - 40)
 x - y   = 30 + 30                                               x + 40 = 3y - 120
 x - y   = 60..........(i)                                          x - 3y = -120 - 40
                                                                         x - 3y = -160 ..........(ii)

De (i) y (ii) tenemos:

 x - y   = 60
 x - 3y = -160
------------------
 x  -  y  = 60
-x + 3y = 160
-------------------
       2y = 220
         y = 110          y si   x - y = 60
                                            x = 60 + y   ( y = 110)
                                            x = 170

Entonces
 Tu = $ x = $ 170    ---------> Rpta a la pregunta .    
 Yo = $y = $ 110
