Brazil, the fifth largest country in the world and the largest in South America, is a country with a culture full of color, life and good vibes that, curiously, makes tourism much more attractive. The mainly indigenous, African and European elements contribute to the culture of Brazil being one more reason to venture on a trip through this country.

Gastronomy:

The quintessential typical dish of Brazilian gastronomy is feijoada, which consists of very well-seasoned beans with salted pork. It also includes other preparations such as churrasco, moqueta (fish stew), acarajé (a mass of beans and onion), xinxim de galinha (a chicken-based dish) and pao de queijo (baked cheese bun).

◾All these dishes have in common that they are the product of the fusion between European, African and indigenous cuisine. For this reason, it can be seen that the ingredients that are most used are beef, fish, and cassava. In addition, the large number of fruits and vegetables that are harvested in the country make the preparations look colorful and have a lot of flavor.

Music and dance:

▪️The musical culture of Brazil allows it to be a country full of rhythms, which, as with typical food, has indigenous, African and European influences. In this sense, within the main types of song of Iberian origin are the fashion and the modinha. Also noteworthy are the different types of sambas, bossa nova, a cross between samba and cool jazz; as well as traditional popular music from the northeast.

Each of these musical genres has its own dance, and Brazilians seem to have rhythm in their blood! As for the dances and dances of the Brazilian culture, the fandango, the chengancas, the pastoral dances, the capoeira, the batuque, the primitive lundú, the conga, the maxixe and the samba stand out. It is also worth mentioning the typical Brazilian dances of indigenous origin: the caterete and the caboclinhos.

Outfit:

The territorial extension, customs, stories, languages and even the arrival of Europeans and Portuguese to the country in the 16th century made the typical clothing of Brazil very varied and different between each of the country's regions. Some of the most characteristic costumes are the following:

  • Typical costumes of Salvador de Bahia: It is an example of Afro-Brazilian roots, made of thick white cotton. It is used daily by women and is usually complemented with colorful jewelry accessories.
  • Typical clothing of Paraíba and Pernambuco: Depending on the region there are some variations, however, in general it consists of a three-button knee-length jacket, tie, narrow pants and boots in the case of men. The women wear colorful dresses that almost cover their feet and high-heeled boots decorated with buttons on the sides.
  • Typical costumes of Rio de Janeiro: It is characteristic of samba and surely the one that has the greatest international diffusion, because it is widely used in the Carnival of Rio de Janeiro. Wear sequins, feathers, glitter and colorful accessories.
  • Las Bahianas: These are the women of San Salvador de Bahía, who dress in long and wide skirts, hand-embroidered blouses and ornaments. Amazon typical costumes: It is based on the indigenous tribes, it consists of a plush skirt and anklets made with aguaje fibers. Women and men bare their chests.

Religion:

▪️Brazilian beliefs are quite diverse, however, thanks to the cultural heritage of the Portuguese, the majority of the population is Catholic. According to Macro Data statistics, 91.5% of Brazilians are believers. A minority identifies as evangelical protestant and another percentage of the population declare themselves atheists, agnostics or lacking religion.

Art and literature in Brazilian culture:

  • In Brazilian culture, art and literature play a key role. The lyrics gained popularity during the 19th century, with the Romantic and Realist movements.
