El was se utiliza para singular  en pasado pregunta, respuesta positiva y negtiva

Ejem:  She was in  the supermarket
           Ella estaba en el supermercado


El were se utiliza para plural en pasado pregunta,respuestas negativas y positivas

  Ejem: They were to the santa lucia 
            Ellos fueron a santa lucia

El did se utiliza en pregunta,respuesta negativa y respuestas cortas
     
     Ejem: Question

   Did he call you this week?
     
       respuesta negativa 

 
   No,he didn't call you this week   

       respuesta positiva

      He called you this week

       si la respuesta esta en positiva el verbo siempre es en pasado
